Introduction

Barcelona Culture Council is an instrument established to contribute to the cultural development of Barcelona.  The Council provides an arena for dialogue involving the city government, different sectors in the world of culture and individuals of recognised worth in the field of culture and the arts. A participatory body, the Council set up to influence the way cultural policy is drawn up, established and applied.

The Council is mixed in nature; it is both consultative and executive, politically independent yet attached to the city government.

Established in 2007 and governed by the Internal Rules and Regulations, Barcelona Council of Culture is one of the 10 structural programmes included in Barcelona Strategic Plan for Culture. New Accents 2006.

The governing bodies of Barcelona Council of Culture are the Plenary Council and the Executive Committee. The Council Plenary has the power to set up delegate commissions.
